This is an ad for a patent to prevent balkiness in horses and mules. Balkiness is an unwillingness of the horse to move forward. Horses sometimes become balky due to physical ailments such as sharp teeth, sore feet, a sore back, badly fitting tack or emotional ailments such as fear or stubbornness.
Benz Velo Automobile

The Benz Velo is a motorized two-passenger buggy. Its engine is situated in a box behind the seats. The auto has four wheels with spokes, the back two are 35.5 and the front two are twenty-three inches. The car is painted burgundy with gold trim.
Bequette-Ribault House, Ste. Genevieve, Missouri

Constructed of red cedar posts set into a trench in the ground (poteaux en terre), this house was built around the turn of the nineteenth century. The spaces between the vertical logs were filled with a mud-plaster chinking (bouzillage). This house is located on St. Mary's Road a short distance out of town.

The Bernardi is a two-passenger automobile painted black with red trim. It has three wheels, two in the front and one in the rear. The small steering wheel is on the right side next to the brake handle. It has a brown upholstered buggy bench. The engine is located in a box underneath the bench.
