The poster warns of the dangers of Belgium being used as a launching pad for air attacks on Germany, arguing that Germany's industries would be vulnerable to immediate destruction. The poster features a montage of biplanes bombing factories, as well as a map of Belgium with red radiating from it. As the map shows Metz as part of Germany, it is likely that it was produced prior to the formal implementation of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919, though France assumed control of the city in 1918. The poster features images of Nieuport biplanes of the variety that were in service after 1916, suggesting that the poster was likely created during the latter part of the war. The poster was likely created as a way of communicating to the German public the future strategic disadvantage Germany would face if it were to concede defeat."--Edited description of Barry Lawrence Ruderman Antique Maps.University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Librarytag:digital.library.illinois.edu,2005:Item/19718562024-01-31T18:32:04Z2024-01-31T19:25:30ZHistoire de la guerre en images d'après la revue américaine le BystanderSerio-comic set of map images with caricatures of two soldiers--one French, the other German--superimposed on each map. This map set depicts the period from September 1, 1918 to October 26, 1918, when the French soldier, beginning from a position of weakness, fights back and subdues his German adversary. The Hundred Days Offensive (August 8 to November 11, 1918) was a series of Allied offensives that ended the First World War. Beginning with the Battle of Amiens (August 8-12), the Allies forced German forces to retreat to the Hindenburg Line and subsequently achieved a series of victories. The offensive--together with a revolution in Germany--led to the Armistice of November 11, 1918.University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Librarytag:digital.library.illinois.edu,2005:Item/8689322022-04-20T16:54:53Z2024-01-29T17:37:30ZMap showing vicinal railways of BelgiumInsets: Anvers -- Gand -- Liége -- Bruxelles -- Mons -- [Houdeng-Goegnies, Louvière, Haine-Saint-Pierre, Mariemont region] -- Charleroy -- Namur..University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Librarytag:digital.library.illinois.edu,2005:Item/8690742022-04-20T16:56:14Z2024-01-29T17:37:36ZHammond's large scale war map of the Western FrontLikely published in 1917.University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Library
