On the left is a map of the entire Western Front, which includes an inset showing the principal French ports and railroads by which the American Expeditionary Forces entered the fight. On the right is a map of the American sector noting the disposition of forces and the front line when the war ended. The Argonne Forest, site of the Meuse-Argonne offensive (in which the doughboys played a major role), is also highlighted. A table of statistics emphasizes the numerical contributions of U.S. forces. Decorative elements such as unit insignia, illustrated vignettes, 2 compass roses, and an elaborate title cartouche (note the white cross) add to the spectacular visual appeal.
