  • [verse 1] War! it is tears of the innocent victims, / War! it is hunger and sickness and loss, / Of wanderers ruined, the multitudes homeless, / Successions of graves with no name with no cross.
  • [verse 2] War! it is fire, the destroyer of city and country, / consuming the crops of the state, / Avenger full blinds without passion or pity, / A monster of darkness and demon of hate.
