| Treatment Notes | Structural repair to cover, Mending, Cleaning, Sewing repair (?). Safe for possible travel as long as openings don't include much pen, change pages etc. 3/9/2017: 3 pages with missing conjugate became detached from textblock through handling for treatment. 6/6/2017: While the original proposal suggested sewing an additional airplane linen flange through the existing holes for reattachment to the cover, this option proved to be less than optimal due to the fragility of the textblock, the numerous areas of intentional damage where pages had been removed, and the textblocks overall level of brittleness. Instead, a construction that consisted of Japanese paper flanges attached using WSP with a stub on the opposite side of the textblock was settled on a the new points of connection. These flanges would be added beneath the black book cloth spine, with reinforced hinges of Japanese tissue added to the inside cover for secure attachment. |
