Description
  • One letter from Henry Allingham to his mother Helen Allingham, from the SS Duke of Buckingham, apologizing for not writing from Batavia (Jakarta), and recounts his visit to Colombo. He writes he and Mr. Sherston stayed at the Grand Oriental Hotel while the ship stopped for coal. He explains he has spent £3 10 shillings, out of the £5 and 10 shillings she had given him. He will likely have to borrow money from Mr. Sherston to pay for fare to Prairie. He hopes Helen does not think he is being extravagant with his money, and explains he will not be going ashore for the remainder of the journey.
