  • Handwritten copy of William Allingham's poem, "The Elf Singing," with preliminary sketches of illustrations by artist Caroline Paterson. Illustrations show a tree on the left-hand side of the page with the elf figure, as well as the shape-shifting wizard described in the poem. Contains note from William Allingham, indicating that the snake should be smaller, and the elf should be further out. On the verso side of the second page, contains a sketch of a baby resting its head on a pillow. Poem and finalized illustrations are published in Allingham's book Rhymes for the Young Folk (1886).
