A letter to Sophronia McNitt from Patrick Moynihan, a private in the 9th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. Moynihan wrote about the weather, veterans reenlisting, and Confederate deserters and the sad state of the Confederate Army. He also noted that he felt sorry for women whose husbands get drafted, and he told a story about a Southern woman who wanted to divorce her Confederate husband because she was a Unionist.
