Description | A detail from a large photograph made by F. D. Richards in Philadelphia on February 22, 1861, at a flag-raising at Independence Hall at sunrise. In this picture Mr. Lincoln is standing directly over the third star from the left in the flag draped over the railing of the platform. This and Number 103 are believed to be the first photographs of a President-elect or a President speaking. |
