  • Binding: Contemporary full vellum with blind-stamped double fillets.
  • Only the first 52 leaves in the volume have content, the rest are blank.
  • Several leaves from the front of the volume have been torn out, as well as at least one whole gathering elsewhere in the volume.
  • Place of production based on place names written on front cover.
  • Date of production based on dated recipes.
  • Title devised by cataloger.
  • The volume is written in a blank, ruled ledger with ms. title on front cover: "Winchester and Hampshire Rents and Disbursemts. - and North Wiltshire Rents."
  • Late 18th-century volume of recipes and medical remedies, in 2-3 hands. Recipes include: "For a consumption wasting of flesh or feverish disorder" (leaf 1r), "To cure deafness" (leaf 3r), "Sr. Richd. Jebb's[?] receipt for Gloucester Jelly" (leaf 6r), "To make orange wine" (leaf 13r), "To mango cucumbers" (leaf 15r), "For preserving Goosberries" (leaf 19r), "Spinnage a la crème" (leaf 25r), "To ragoo a breast of veal" (leaf 32r), "White hogs pudings in gutts" (leaf 37r), and "Hotch pot" (leaf 46r). Other recipes for household or cosmetic use include: dyes, "hand paste," pomades, and bathing spirits. Attributions appear throughout the volume, including mentions of "H. Southby," "Wm. Wilberforce," "Miss Dodd," "Mrs. Napier," "Mrs. Bowden," "from Dr. Addington," "Miss Bever," "Mrs. Morgan," and many recipes signed "A.G." (many in a same hand).Only the first 52 leaves in the volume have content, the rest are blank.
