One letter from British poet Coventry Patmore to William Allingham stating that he currently does not have the time to write a long letter regarding Allingham's poems, even though he wishes to. He does express his pleasure in reading Allingham's poems. Patmore expresses his interest in reading Allingham's more serious work, and writes how different short and long poems are. Patmore shares that he has made the acquaintance of two artists Cross and Millais, who he believes will "cut out our quacks." Cross is likely the English painter John Cross. Patmore wishes Allingham was in town to meet them.
