Description
One letter from the daughter of George Petrie and probable landscape painter, Mary A. (Marianne) Petrie to William Allingham informing him that she writes on behalf of her father to apologize for him being away from home and not responding to his letter. She informs Allingham that her father had been sick with some kind of influenza for some time, but is now feeling well enough to go on an excursion to Arran, Scotland. She mentions that her father's acquaintance Mr. Burton will be sketching in Scotland, and that she hopes will cause her father to remain. Petrie inquires about the Manchester exhibition, and mentions that she received a letter from a friend who went, who questioned why all Pre-Raphaelite women have "ugly faces and bright red hair." The letter's paper contains a water for A Cowan & Sons.
