Letter from William Michael Rossetti to William Allingham, May 31, 1855
Creator
Rossetti, William Michael, 1829-1919
Date
1855-05-31
Description
One letter from English writer and critic William Michael Rossetti to William Allingham informing Allingham that his poem will be welcome to the "yankee" editor, whom Rossetti does not explicitly name. He tells Allingham that he would be glad to review Allingham's book in "The Critic," and discusses Allingham writing to Cox, likely Edward William Cox, the editor of the "Critic." Rossetti mentions the illustrations arist Arthur Hughes has done for Allingham's upcoming book. Rossetti acknowledges Allingham's desire for news, and updates him on their shared acquaintances. Rossetti mentions Millais marrying, the previous Mrs. Ruskin, and that William Holman Hunt is still in Jerusalem. He also offers updates on Ruskin, Miss Siddal, Barbara Smith, and the Howitts. In a post-script, Rossetti inquires whether Allingham will be going to Paris, and mentions that Scott is expected to be going, likely referring to Scottish artist William Bell Scott, who was associated with the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.
