Description
One letter and accompanying envelope from English writer and critic William Michael Rossetti to William Allingham offering Allingham advice on publishers, but explains he does not have much personal experience with them. Rossetti mentions several different publishers including Macmillan, and Smith + Elder publishers, as well as the American publisher Ticknor and Fields. Rossetti shares that if Allingham is interested in illustrated books that Routledge is the best publisher for that purpose. Rossetti mentions 19th century American publication, "The Crayon," which he explains he has been receiving monthly. Rossetti offers updates on shared acquaintances Millais, his brother Dante Gabriel Rossetti, the Brownings, and Ford Madox Brown. Rossetti also mentions Valentine "Val" Princep, who was a British painter belonging to the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. The accompanying envelope is addressed to Allingham in Ballyshannon, and is post-marked Jan. 19-21st, 1858.
