Rossetti, William Michael, 1829-1919
Date
18uu-11-27
Description
One letter from English writer and critic William Michael Rossetti to William Allingham regarding an article Allingham had written for the "Coleraine Chronicle," which in it Allingham revised his previous opinion on A. Smith, likely the Scottish poet Alexander Smith. Rossetti offers his own critique of Allingham's revised opinion, comparing himself to what Allingham calls "a hyper-critic." Rossetti believes that Allingham's second article was not as strong as the first he wrote. Rossetti updates Allingham on news of their shared acquaintances. He mentions that Millais has returned from painting the background for his portrait of Ruskin. Rossetti also shares that Hunt is soon leaving for Egypt, and plans to remain abroad for 2 or 3 years.
