Description
One letter and accompanying envelope from British sculptor and poet Thomas Woolner to William Allingham regarding a previously mentioned trip to Ireland which will not occur, as Woolner leaves for Australia next month. Woolner mentions his trip is in pursuit of making the type of art he has chosen. Woolner creates a metaphor using St. George and the dragon, to explain his deviation from the art style of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Woolner also mentions that Howitt is in the party as well. Woolner makes mention of his desire to see Allingham before his trip, and writes that he has no gossip to share. The accompanying envelope is addressed to Allingham at Ballyshannon, and is post-marked June 9-11, 1852.
