Axon, previous librarian in Manchester, and mentions an article he had written regarding the dangers of smoking. Newman names Sir Benjamin Birdie, as an early activist against smoking. Newman inquires whether Allingham would consider an article from Axon for Fraser's magazine. In a post-script, Newman writes that Allingham should expect a letter from him on his own subject.
