Copy of one letter from British poet Coventry Patmore to William Allingham in which Patmore shares he has received a letter form the Editor of the North British Review, which encouraged to give up an article reviewing Alexander Smith to another contributor, likely a friend of Smith's. Patmore mentions that he is the Poetical contributor of the North British Review, and tried to advise the editor on the matter. Patmore writes that he intended to compare Allingham's volume to that of Smith's, and explain Allingham's superiority. Patmore writes that Scotsmen are clannish, and that he hates them all. He also mentions a notice of him in the Athenaeum. Patmore writes about a piece he wrote on Longfellow, and inquires whether Allingham had seen it.
