  • Disbound, with evidence of original spine stitching; housed in 20th-century quarter red morocco and red cloth chemise.
  • Formerly bound as part of a larger volume of state papers and associated documents, including "Speeches delivered in the Starrchamber, the xxixth of November, 1599" and "Kinge James his Speeche in Parliam[en]te concerninge the Unyon betwixt England, and Scotland".
  • Last leaf blank.
  • Watermarks: grapes.
  • Date of production suggested by Beal.

  • Title within two sets of double rules, surmounted and subscribed by spiralling flourishes; internal punctuation reads: The: Coppye: Off': a: Letter:.
  • Title transcribed from title page.
  • Letter written approximately November-December 1579 advising the Queen against marriage to the Duc d'Anjou and Alençon for political, religious, and personal reasons. Copy, entirely in the secretary hand of the Feathery Scribe, with sidenotes, catchwords, and marginal rulings. The copy, according to stemmas in Beal and Duncan-Jones, descends from the "Y1" copy, with text reading, "not unfitly" (not vnffittlye, f. 2v.19), "your Subjects" (yo[u]r Sub[jec]t[es], f. 3r.19) and "without laying it up in such ivy knots" (w[i]thout layenige it vpp in such ivye knottes, f. 9r.23-24).
