Title | Hawkeye turns on the Torturer |
Caption | The skunk hurled the tomahawk with deadly malignity at the intended victim, who stood like a statue amid the taunts, menaces, and the shower of deadly weapons of the howling savages. Suddenly Hawkeye raised his arm and caught the deadly weapon by the handle. His eye kindled then, and a small red spot appeared on each cheek, while he cast all his energy into the effort of his arm, and threw the weapon back at his assailant. The unexpectedness of the blow contributed to its success. The skunk had not time to raise his arm or bend his head to avoid it. The keen axe struck the savage in a straight line with the nose, between the eyes, literally braining him on the spot. -The Deerslayer. |
