Description | One letter from the Grand Duchess of Weimar's personal secretary James Marshall to William Allingham acknowledging the his reception of the books Allingham had sent him. He also writes about Allingham's brief trip to Weimar, Germany, from where Marshall is writing. He mentions that this trip was the beginning of the two mens' friendship. He also writes of Allingham's talent in regard to the books that were sent, specifically regarding his poem, "Nightingale valley," which later in his letter he calls "the finest poem you have written!" He mentions in his letter several other poets such as Edgar Allen Poe, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Thomas Carlyle, and Christina Rossetti. He also refers to Allingham's book "Poems" as "really racy." ` |
