[A pictorial gameboard for a jeu de parcours (journey game) through the battlefields of World War I, including the western and eastern fronts, as well as naval combat and campaigns against the Ottoman Empire in the Middle East. Many of the images focus on technological advancements, such as the deployment of troops by rail, the use of enormous artillery pieces, artillery installed on trains, armored vehicles, air-to-air combat, and aerial bombardment. In one scene a submarine fires a torpedo at another ship, and another shows Allied soldiers digging a tunnel under the German lines in order to plant explosives. The game was published in Paris around 1916. It consists of two sheets, and the only other example we have located--which is in the collection of the Musée National des Arts et Traditions Populaires in Marseille--also consists of two sheets. This suggests that the game was never issued as a complete gameboard. An extremely rare piece.]--Edited description of Geographicus Rare Antique Maps
