Title | Map of Funk Farms, McLean County, Illinois |
Description | This map shows the location of all the Funk Farms in McLean County. |
Interpretation | The work of Eugene D. Funk and Dr. James Halbert from 1905-1945 brought science into the production of corn. The Funks first bred corn like livestock. The best ears were selected and judged. These "show" varieties were then marketed to farmers as better than the farmers' own varieties. The seed was shipped on the ear because progressive farmers judged by the ear. |
