Description | Ford’s Theater in Washington D.C. is a popular historic site, operated by the National Park Service. It has been restored to its appearance April 14, 1865, the night that Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. |
Interpretation | Ford’s Theater operates as a working theater. Tours of the building must be scheduled around performances. The exterior and the audience portion of the interior are restored, but the stage area is a contemporary working theater. In the lower level of the building is a museum, with many objects relating to Lincoln’s assassination. There is also a small gift shop and bookstore. |
