Description | The Karr homestead near Bloomington, photographed about 1885, shows an example of what pioneer field and fences were like. |
Interpretation | Fence rails were cut in the timber found by early settlers on the prairie. These rails were used to enclose a small bit of prairie as close as possible to the edge of the woodland. |
