Title | Nashville, from the Capitol |
Description | Reproduction of a black and white photograph of Nashville taken from the Capitol building from Barnard, George N. Photographic Views of Sherman's Campaign, Embracing Scenes of the Occupation of Nashville, the Great Battles around Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain, the Campaign of Atlanta, March to the Sea, and the Great Raid through the Carolinas. New York, 1866. Dimensions: 8"x10". |
Interpretation | The erection of the capitol at Nashville was commenced some years previous to the outbreak of the late rebellion. The location selected was a commanding elevation in the center of the city, which places the base of the capitol somewhat higher than the roofs of the majority of the buildings near.
