Description | Round Barn, University of Illinois, Urbana. |
Interpretation | This is one of the original round barns built at the University of Illinois in the early 1900's. The University has three round barns. The first was built in 1908, the second in 1920 and the third was built in 1912. The construction of each barn was improved based on experience with the older barn before it. Typically, a round barn has a silo in the center, livestock on the first floor and a hay loft above. The three University of Illinois round barns were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. |
