Title | University of Illinois Lincoln Hall, Urbana, Illinois |
Description | 702 S. Wright Street, Urbana. |
Interpretation | In 1909 the legislature appropriated funds for a classroom facility commemorating the centenary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. The U-shaped building's east facade, as shown here, is embellished with shallow reliefs depicting scenes from Lincoln's life. Inside is a marble memorial hall. The north and south facades contain Lincoln quotations and likenesses of his associates. James M. White's 1929 addition provided a lecture hall/theater and extended the wings westward, connecting them along Wright Street. |
