Coverage-Spatial | Lincoln's Home, Springfield (Ill.) |
Description | Drawing of the Rear Parlor of the Lincoln Home, facing east, as it appeared in late 1860 or early 1861. Published in Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper on March 9, 1861. |
Interpretation | The artist was sent to duplicate the interior appearance of the Home for Leslie's readers, the sketches appearing on the eve of Abraham Lincoln's inauguration. Illustrated newspapers were extremely popular at the time, due to the fact that a process for printing photographs in newspapers had not yet been invented. |
