Interpretation | History of cradle from an 1896 inventory of the Oldroyd collection: "Family cradle or crib. When Mr. Lincoln was preparing to move to Washington, in 1861, this piece of furniture with several others was stored over John William Dry Goods store. It was given to a clerk, George Davis, and then sold to S.M. Whitecraft, who gave the rocker to Osbourne Oldroyd for his collection." Probably used by the last three Lincoln children (Edward, William, and Thomas). |
