She writes of "receiving the joyful news of the 'surrender of Lee's Army'' as well as the "reverse feeling" of "President Lincoln & Sec. Seward assassination". She writes, "Darling this is so sad just as things was beginning to look a little fair to meet with such a loss. All the bells tolled over an hour this morning. Dear words fail to express our feelings. What next will befall us I wonder." |
