Title
Sofa, left by Rev. Charles Dresser when he sold his home to the Lincolns
Description
  • slightly swelled wedge shape, small legs on castors, back is modified simple comb with slight scrolls 1/3 & 2/3 down top rail. Cyma curved arms, end in slight scroll, edge of bottom rail on seat small-spool beaded. L 79" x W 26" x H 39".
  • Transitional Late Empire sofa. Upholstered in rose brocade
Interpretation
Tradition holds that Rev. Charles Dresser left this sofa behind when he sold his house to Abraham Lincoln in 1844. It was reupholstered in the 1950s with inappropriate fabric.
