I’ll Do the Same as My Daddy Verse: My great-grandfather went to war in eighteen twelve, And done his share to set this nation free, Then in the Civil war, like heroes fought before, My own grandfather fought for liberty. My dad he did the same, he went to war with Spain, And nobly gave his life to save the cause, With such a fam’ly tree, Today it’s up to me, To do my share by fighting with the boys. Refrain: I’ll do the same as my daddy, When he marched away off to war, I’ll feel as proud, to be with the crowd, Like my fore-fathers were years before, I want a chance, to serve dear old France, For to us she has been staunch and true, I’ll do the same as my Daddy Did for the old Red, White and Blue. Verse: My country needs me so I’m going to enlist, The same as granddad did in sixty-one, Tho’ mother dear I know, will hate to see me go, She’s not the only one to lose a son. If dad were only here, he’d give a rousing cheer, To see me in my uniform so grand, For old Democracy, And all that
