Title | Cultivating Soybeans with Horses |
Description | A farmer, pulled by two horses, cultivates his soybean crop about 1930. |
Interpretation | The great crop change of the 1930s was the substitution of soybeans for eats in the system of crop rotation. Farmers began to apply newly popular mechanized corn producing techniques to beans. They started planting soybeans, like corn, in rows. After much experimentation, they discovered that corn harvesting equipment could be used to gather beans. |
Inscription | Soybeans were the miracle crop of the 1920s and 1930s. (Funk Heritage Trust) |
