There was a brave and noble Frenchman came to us some years ago from across the sea, and how well do we recall the hero deeds that he had done for dear old liberty? And when we hear that Frenchman’s story why our eyes filled up with tears for all we knew it was true. He says what shall I tell my people over there? This answer we give to you. I’m off to be a soldier too, to fight for Old Glory and you. I’m going far across the sea to help fight your battles too. If in your country I should fall, I’ve died for Old Glory and you. Hark! I hear the bugle call once more I say goodbye to all. She dreamed of him while he was fighting in dear France so far away would he ever return? And how well does she recall his fond embrace and farewell kiss, her heart for him still yearns. And his parting kiss still lingers, lingers yet upon her lips and there it will days to come. But still the sweetest memory that she recalls: those stirring words he sung. I’m off to be a soldier too, to fight for Old Glory and you. I’m going far across the sea to help fight your battles too. If in your country I should fall, I’ve died for Old Glory and you. Hark! I hear the bugle call once more I say goodbye to all. I’m off to be a soldier too.
