Way Down There Verse: Over there where shot and shell are screaming, wounded boy from Dixieland lay dreaming, In his dream he seemed to be down home in Tennessee, The nurse came ‘round to dress his wounded head, the Dixie boy looked up at her and said: Refrain: Away down there in Tennessee, a dream so fair came over me, I dreamt I heard them singing in the pale moonlight, “Where is our wand’ring boy tonight,” My mother dear was standing near, her head bowed down to hide a tear, The neighbors gathered ‘round the dear old lady fair, they all knelt down and offered up a prayer, For a Dixie boy they’re missing way down there. Verse: Way down there the candle lights are gleaming, dear old dear is by the fireside dreaming, By her side her darling boy, their hearts are filled with joy, He cuddles to the dear old lady fair, and tells her of his dreaming over there. Refrain
