Billy’s little country sweetheart came to bid Billy goodbye, And as the band began to play the boys began to cry. Refrain: Oh we won’t be with you tomorrow, today we march away, And tho’ we’re sorry to leave you, our hearts are light and gay. So kiss your girl goodbye, Bill, we’ll shout hip hip hooray (H’ray!), Oh we won’t be with you tomorrow, we’re leaving town today. Verse: Billy took the flag she had and pressed it close to his breast, You’re very dear to me, said he, but here’s the one I love the best.
