Seated on a bench, wounded soldier lad, dreaming of a trench, and dreaming makes him sad, he longs to be somewhere out there in the fray, and to a comrade who is soon to march away, he says “Old Pal, if I could go with you once more, I’d give my life to find the one that I adore: “Somewhere out there in Belgium, where roses used to grow, where robins sang in springtime, now all is turned to woe
amid starvation and desolation, she still is blooming, my poor heart knows, for somewhere out there in Belgium, you will find my Belgian Rose.” On a lonesome hill there’s a lonesome mound, ev’rything is still for peace at last he’s found, he is with the angels, watching from above, both night and day he guards and shields her with his love. As on the battlefield she tend the wounded there, a voice from heaven seems to whisper this fond pray’r.

[verse 2] On a lonesome hill / There's a lonesome mound, / Ev'rything is still for peace at last he's found / He is with the angels, / Watching from above, / Both night and day he guards and shields her with his love / As on the battlefield she tends the wounded there, / A voice from Heaven seems to whisper this fond pray'r.
[refrain 1] Somewhere out there in Belgium, / Where roses used to grow, / Where robins sang in Springtime, / Now all is turned to woe / Amid starvation / And desolation / She still is blooming / My poor heart knows, for / Somewhere out there in Belgium / You will find my Belgian Rose.
