Description
The Karr homestead near Bloomington, photographed about 1885, shows an example of what pioneer field and fences were like.
Interpretation
Fence rails were cut in the timber found by early settlers on the prairie. These rails were used to enclose a small bit of prairie as close as possible to the edge of the woodland.
