Title | Marking Cornfield |
Description | This drawing of a hand-held planter shows a farmer planting in evenly-marked spaces. |
Interpretation | Farmers marked their fields into a grid of squares to indicate where the corn should be planted. Marking might be either a walking or a riding activity. |
Inscription | Marking the cornfield was essential. If plants were not evenly spaced, they could not properly be cultivated. Note the hand held planter. (Prairie Farmer) |
