A brave lad came back from the fighting zone, to his dear little girl over here, and the gladness she felt as his coming home brought a smile where there was once a tear. Now she smiles thro’ her blushes of red, as she shows him his letter that said, there isn’t any girl in France, dear, who in any way compares with you, I crossed the sea to take my chance, dear, with our own Red, White, and Blue. If they’ll carry me back to old New England, now that the war is through, they can keep all the Frenchies for the French laddies, but I’m coming back to you. As most maidens do in the story books, when their lovers return from the fray, she has placed all her faith in her soldier boy, and agreed on a near wedding day. They may share many joys in their life, but these words will bring joy to his wife.
