The Soldier Boy and the Girl at Home Verse: A brave soldier boy lying wounded at the end of a battles fray. His thoughts were of home and loved ones, so many miles away He wondered if they were thinking of him braving the shot and shell And if she who said she loved him loved him tonight as well. Refrain: A soldier boy who fought for his country’s flag Fought bravely and well but wounded he fell at close of the day The girl at home while waiting for his return Was thinking of him and of their wedding day, when he came home to stay. Verse: His sweetheart so anxiously waited for news of the boys who fall She prays that he’ll be guarded, by him who watches o’er all She loves him she knows and wait his return she’ll meet him at the door And with smiles and kisses greet him after the war is o’er. Refrain
