Take a Letter to My Daddy over There Verse: He was just a youngster only seven, that was all, His daddy was a soldier who had heard his country’s call
This boy was mighty lonesome, since his dad had gone away, He whispered to the mailman, when he called the other day: Refrain: Take a letter to my daddy over there, Tell him that each night for him I say a pray’r, He’s a soldier brave and true, tell him, “God will bless him,” too, ‘cause he’s fighting for his country, like a hero ought to do. Tell him that I miss him, while he’s far away, And I’m praying he’ll return to me some day, He means all the world to me, and how happy I will be, if you only take a letter to my daddy. Verse: I don’t know the address, but it’s out in France somewhere, My mammy never tells me, all she says is, “over there
” I know that you can find him over there across the sea, He always wears a locket with a photograph of me. Refrain
