Interpretation | During the siege of the city [Nashville] by General Breckinridge in 1862, the capitol was strongly fortified by J. St. C. Morton, of the Engineer Corps, U.S.A., and converted into the citadel of the fortifications about the city. The stockades at the entrances have been removed, but a greater portion of the earthworks still remain. Barnard, George N. Photographic Views of Sherman's Campaign.
