Lyrics | Goodbye My Hero Verse: Sweetheart I soon must leave you the soldiers are falling in line. Sweetheart don’t let it grieve you, I will return some time. Don’t let your heart grow weary, come little girl don’t sigh. Hark now the bugles calling, sweetheart of mine don’t cry. Refrain: Goodbye, my hero soldier of mine. God will protect you on the fireing [sic] line You’ll find me waiting with heart true blue. Goodbye my hero farewell to you. Verse: A mothers sad heart was aching, her son he must now go to war. News that war clouds were breaking sounded at every door. One parting kiss he gave her, knelt at her side to pray. Then as he rose to leave her, I heard his mother say: Refrain: Goodbye, my hero soldier of mine. God will protect you on the fireing [sic] line Fight for old glory with heart true blue. Goodbye my hero farewell to you. |
