Under the Blue Skies of France Verse: Stormy were the scenes of battle, gallant boys were falling fast. In the trenches lay three comrades, would this battle be their last? Weary hearts that day were longing, loving thought went o’er the foam. Each one dreaming of a darling, each one dreaming of a home. Refrain: One kissed a sweet little baby’s curl, under the blue skies of France. One kissed a picture of his dear girl, under the blue skies of France. One thought of home and the cotton fields white, Of mother, who waits by the dim candle light. Then three loving pray’rs went to heaven that night, Under the blue skies of France. Verse: Now we see three different pictures, in the good old USA. Just a child who tells her dollie: “Daddy stays so long away!” And a Dixie girl is reading letters from her soldier love, While a mother’s soul is drifting to a brighter world above. Refrain
