Description | A letter from Dixwell Lathrop describing Rockwell, Illinois and its "prominent facts as to its situation, its advantages and the principles of its organization." Dixwell Lathrop provides a detailed description of the Illinois and Michigan Canal: "It is now in the course of rapid construction, under the authority of the State, and the portion passing through Rockwell is about half completed, and the work is in progress." The letter is dated January 5, 1838. |
