The vertical log construction of the Pierre Martin house was revealed when the exterior clapboard was removed. The vertical walnut timbers are anchored at top and bottom by wooden pegs, a technique called mortise and tendon, which requires great skill. The spaces between the logs, which were groved along their narrow edges, were filled with stone nogging, or "pierrotage.

This whale oil lamp is made of pewter. It stands on a tall, slender cylindrical stem. The reservoir is an inverted pear shaped bulb surrounded by a strap of thinly hammered pewter numbered 1 to 12 in Roman numerals. The reservoir leads to a spout shaped wick opening.

Small tin lamp with "japanning". Japanning is a black heavy lacquer used to make tin objects look better. This lamp has a cylindrical reservoir and a single wick holder. A small holder is fastened to a circular saucer shaped base.

The post-on-sill house has a gallery across the front that can be entered from either end. There are two entrances into the house from the gallery. The attic contains Norman truss work with huge oak beams.

A trapezoidal wooden base holds a glass reservoir. The glass reservoir has a square peg at its base to hold it into the wood. The reservoir is globular and has a threaded tin wick fixture. The wicks are splayed as is typical of a camphene lamp and there are wick covers attached by chains.

This lamp has a tall cylindrical reservoir which is white glass, handpainted with autumn colored leaves. There is a wheel handle for moving the wick upwards. The base of the lamp is heavy cast iron sporting geometric sunburst, triangular and heartshaped friezes.

The Bolduc House has a stockade or property fence (pieux debouts), typical of many French homes, which encloses its yard and backyard garden, as well as outbuildings. This provided security and kept domestic animals from straying off the property.
