In 1872, William Van Schoick combined his company with three partners to form the Bloomington Pork Packing Company. The company butchered 15,000 hogs annually, but ultimately failed, due to competition from national producers in the 1890s.

This whale oil lamp is made of pewter. The foot holds a vertical cylindrical reservoir above which are held the typical parallel double wicks of the whale oil lamp. On either side of the wicks are two large pieces of glass meant to magnify the flame.

A wooden base holds a pressed glass reservoir which has a square peg at the base to hold it into the wood. The glass is square with rounded shoulders and leads to a narrow mouth which has a threaded tin wick fixture. The wicks channels are splayed as is typical of a camphene lamp and there are wick covers attached by chains.

A cylindrical glass jar with a lid which transforms it into a lamp. The lid has two broad wick holders protruding from one side. A heavy C shaped cover with chain for the wick holders is attached and indicates that this is probably a camphene lamp.
