The woman’s body is based on the fluted water-storing column of a spiky native southwestern cactus. The jar she is carrying is shaped like the water gourds once used on desert trails. The artist comments: “The fountain base and supporting basin designs were founded on the idea of concentric ripples caused by water falling, drop by drop, into a still pool…a drum eight feet in diameter rises to support the granite transitional base under the figure.
